Network Issues

Filed under Connection Issues, Network News by owine on December 10, 2008

We are currently experiencing issues with the network related to some strangeness with the InspIRCd software. We are working with the developers to get the issue resolved and hope to have the network restored as soon as possible. Please bear with it, there will be some netsplits and server restarts.

Update (12/11/08 6:25 PM CST): The issues have been fixed and additional steps have been taken to prevent them from happening and having profound effect in the future. We have also added additional redundancy to the network. The issues were fixed late yesterday, but I (owine) am extremely busy (final exam season, yay!) so it took me a while to update this post.

Strange Rejoins and IPv6

Filed under Network News by dhp1080 on October 29, 2008

Strange, after undergoing a server move due to instability, has rejoined the network. It is now located in Amsterdam, Netherlands and is still provided by Shaun. This server move should produce more reliable connectivity, especially for users located in Europe. For these users, we added the round-robin “eu.mintirc.net” to automatically connect you to a European server.

With this server move, we now offer IPv6 connections on Strange. Simply resolve irc.mintirc.net to an AAAA record and you will be connected to the network via IPv6. We hope this new service offering will help facilitate the growing move to IPv6 networking.

As a note, we have also added ports 9999 and 7000 as SSL ports for the network (We still offer port 6697). Thanks for using MintIRC!
